Presented by Soundscape Records and Urbanscapes 2016, one of Singapore longest running independent music bands The Observatory will be screening their music documentary The Obs: A Singapore Story and showcasing their latest album August is The Cruellest.
The music documentary by Yeo Siew Hua delves into intricate machinations of The Observatory. It explores "what it means to be an outsider in a society that favours the mainstream", though documenting the band's inner sanctum of music-making, and uses this to define the broader socio-political context of Singapore's music scene, of which the experimental rock band thrived in, through its artistic expressions in music and art. The documentary was the official selection at the 2014 Singapore Film Festival, 2015 Cinedays Festival of European Film and 2016 Festival of Music Documentaries (DORF).
Following the documentary screening, The Observatory will be doing a showcase of their eight studio album "August is The Cruellest". The Observatory was conceived 14 years ago. Headed by Leslie Low, the band so far has released seven albums.
